Destiny Muhammad,
a gifted performer, recording artist, and composer began her musical journey on harp 14 years ago. Known as the Harpist from the Hood, Destiny currently rewrites classical and modern recordings for vocals and harp. Her first introduction to the Harp was at the tender age of nine years old. Later as an adult, a trip to Belgium reintroduced her to the mother of the modern harp - The Kora. 'I heard an album featuring the Kora and was mesmerized by the sound', says Destiny. She began harp lessons, and it wasn't long before Destiny's Acoustic Jazz/Classical style' was born.
Aside from her stunning solo performances, Destiny has appeared with some of the Great Ones. Here are a few collaborations:
Concert with Jazz Trumpeter Eddie Gayle; a concert collaboration of the compositions of John Coltrane and Elvin Jones at Yoshi's Jazz & Supper Club; ESSENCE Magazine's "Women Who Are Shaping the World Leadership Summit"; the Monterey Jazz Festival; and Destiny's annual "Friends & Family Tour" in collaboration with Triplett Harps Company. Highlights from this tour include a Jam Session at the African American Museum in Detroit Michigan, jazz sessions at Soul Vegetarian Chicago, DC and Maryland tours, and a local library tour of the San Francisco Libraries. Destiny established a new Harp presence at the 2005 NAMM show with Triplett's first Acoustic/Electric 38 string NeoCeltic Harp.
Destiny is now in production, currently writing and collaborating on her fourth work, which is her first project with Phoenix Audiovisual Arts.
We can hardly wait!
